Halloween is one of our favorite holidays here at the cottage. We love to see the kids in their costumes, and we had over a hundred this year. Treats from Yummies were the usual hit with the kids. For the 20+th year, Susan carved amazing pumpkins. Some of her best work in a difficult medium!
With a little background light:
New things are happening in the studio for the Fall and Winter, and we will post them as they appear!

October is always a special month at the Cottage. The first crisp cold air of the season has arrived, and the trees here in Newburyport are putting on their beautiful fall wardrobe. After a great four years, due to family commitments, Susan’s work will no longer be available at Ivy Lane. Her passion for painting will continue with custom work. Keep checking the web site for new work and news.

Looking forward to Fall! We’re still in the hot days of August, but that crisp fall air will be here before you know it. This is a great time to begin thinking about Fall decor and changes to your home before the busy holiday season, from a small accessory to a larger piece of furniture. The leaves will be starting to turn, always an exciting time for us. Let us make the Fall exciting for you with something new for your home.
Memorial Day weekend in Newburyport

Susan has completed two new pieces this past week. The waterfall dresser in off-white and gold and the unique console table have both made it to Ivy Lane. Come and see them as you visit the craft fair and vendors. Ivy is on Pleasant Street. As you stroll up Inn Street, cross Pleasant into the courtyard and you will find Ivy Lane on the right. Come in often for the ever-changing selections. Don’t forget the ZIP code buoys, and remember that you can order custom ZIP codes. The buoys come in a variety of colors to complement your decor.
The weather on the North Shore has been gorgeous. We strolled the waterfront this morning, and the river view towards Plum Island was just perfect. The boats are all in the water, there’s a warm sun and a cool breeze. Don’t miss it.
Tomorrow we remember all of those who served, especially those who gave the ultimate gift.
See the latest dresser!

Several pieces sold over the weekend, and so I’ve removed them from the available inventory. Our favorite, the spinet desk is on its way to a new home, as is the dresser with the glass knobs and the Paris upholstered bench. Good news for those of you looking for a dresser is that a new one is now in the shop. See the available inventory link for details. More dressers are on the way, and we have about 20 in the inventory if you are looking for a custom piece. Reserving a place in the custom queue is always the best way to ensure that you get the dresser of your dreams! The same is true for desks, benches, and other smaller pieces. If you are looking for a piece, let us know and we can see if we have one in storage. We also have access to a broader inventory from our sources, so we can often find a piece even if we don’t have it in stock.
Now that spring is here, think how great it would be to update a room with a new piece from October Cottage!
Welcome to the new site

Our new site is up and working (many thanks to Jarred from Newburyport IT). We have many more pieces to add to the portfolio, and you will be able to see those over the coming days, so check back! Spring has finally made it to Newburyport (only one foot of snow left in the circle in front of the house). Newburyport is coming alive with people, and our shop within a shop at Ivy Lane beckons with new furniture. Susan’s pieces are spread throughout the store. Look for the October Cottage tag with our logo. The new bench is on the upper level near the cash register, and the latest dresser is on the lower level (look to the left wall as you get to the bottom of the ramp). There’s a drop leaf table on the wall opposite the cash register that would be perfect for a small kitchen. A few Newburyport and Plum Island whales are still swimming about, and there’s a Man Cave sign just in time to adorn the cave as the Sox’es season starts. Remember that Ivy Lane is in the courtyard opposite Oregano’s on Pleasant Street (park in the lot opposite Jewel in the Crown, or in the Green Street/Inn Street lot and you are only a few steps away).
